A Dream in Red Mansions, written by Cao Xueqin, is a great masterpiece of high ideological level and artistry. As a literary work, created in the middle period of Qing dynasty and in late feudal society, the novel systematically summarizes the culture and systems of China feudal society, profoundly criticizes all aspects of the feudal society and puts forward an indistinct ideal and proposition of preliminary democracy. These ideals and propositions are an indirect reflection of the growing capitalistic economy in the embryonic stage.
