Journey to The West is the first romantic god-evil novels, which tells us a story that Monk Tang goes on a pilgrimage to Western Paradise for Buddhist scriptures, guarded by his three apprentices who are Sun Wukong, Pig, Sha Wujing. After travelling one hundred and eight thousand li, going through eighty-one adversities, and defeating the devils along the way, they have finally reached Western Paradise and got Buddhist scriptures. The author, Wu Cheng'en, used the writing techniques of positive romanticism to reflect realistic thoughts and feelings and combined well-meaning ridicule and pungent satire with serious criticism. His work opens a new kind of god-evil chapter novels. The novel makes use of peculiar and bold imagination to describe a colorful and magic imaginary world and create a series of tortuous and witty fairy tales, aiming at reflecting human relationships and common sentiments, expressing wisdom of the world and showing strong smack of everyday life in fantasy.
