"Reading Newspapers, Learning Chinese--Advanced Reading of Chinese Newspapers and Periodicals" (Volume 1 and 2) was compiled by Associate Professor Wu Chengnian, College of Chinese Culture, Beijing Normal University. Before compiling the textbook, 179 intermediate-level international students conducted a survey on their interest in newspaper topics, and the topics that students are more interested in (such as employment, tourism, Internet, etc.) were given priority in the textbook. The language materials of the textbooks are all selected from articles in Chinese newspapers and Chinese websites from 2002 to 2004. The topics are not only time-sensitive, but also long-term and stable on the basis of focusing on students' interests. The textbook is appropriate in difficulty, clear in language points and highly practical. The glossary for each lesson has Chinese explanations and translations in English, Japanese and Korean, making it easier for foreign students whose mother tongue is Japanese, Korean and who have mastered English to learn this textbook.
